We ought to choose life…
A small island under siege on the river Thames… The story of Ravens Ait island and the birth of the Environmental Parliament.
We ought to choose life…
Ravens Ait island is under siege by police and Kingston statist Lib-Dem council that wants to evict the Environmental Community.
My belief is that the struggle over Ravens Ait, the small island on the river Thames, is an apt metaphor for the struggle of our little planet (a tiny island in a tranquil universe) placed under siege by polluters, exploiters, carbon emitters, despoiling owners of the lands, the resource and fossil fuel exploitation industries, the militaries, the illogical consumerists, the growth crazed developers and financial schemers, and all shortsighted national governments, without fail.
The island is under siege by a hostile council and police but for those of us who can see the bigger picture, so is our earth.
The much awaited Environmental revolution has started. This is where the forward trenches are. The ides of March have been at work here and the people are taking sides with the young Environmentalists. The ravens Ait island environmental community is the guerrilla movement that is taking root and spreading throughout the world.
Letters of solidarity and emails are flooding from all over. Environmental organizations, social activists, social entrepreneurs and long term thinkers are coming together next weekend to debate the Top Questions about the Environment in a positive counterbalance to the shite that the G20 regularly serves as lunch fare to the masses.
let this action on behalf of the environment on the little island on the river be a ‘call to arms’ for the whole environmental movement.
It’s time we all come together to proffer a platform of top questions for action, not just for the consideration anymore by the leaders.
They aren’t getting it and must be woken up to smell the roses.
Social activism, civil disobedience and revolt is what usually wakens up lethargic leaders in times of crises. Why should we think this instant in history should be any different?
The environment and climate doesn’t wait for anybody to make up their minds or put on the lipstick on the ugly issues we are facing.
Many years hence when students of the Environment would look back to define the moment this revolt for the earth burst; they will look at the little island called Ravens Ait as a catalyst for change.
This is where the revolution started this year, same as another rebellion started here in 1217 with the signing of the treaty of Lambeth, which gave full rights to the English people for the first time. Yes, on this tiny piece of land is where the human rights in England started and where the strength of the overreaching Treaty of lambeth forced the ratification of theMagna Carta*. Environment is all about human rights.
But now we look at another treaty to be discussed and that is the Environmental Treaty that needs to be written after careful debate and honest science to give full rights for the first time to the environment.
Let’s start the debate at the Environmental Parliament in the Ravens Ait island on the river Thames next weekend the 28th & 29th of March to countenance the economic undertakers of the G20 meetings.
Who knows, Maybe they will see the light and CHOOSE LIFE…
CHOOSE LIFE… like we have.
