SAVE OUR DEMOCRACY
Economic hardships and wars along with challenges of greater imprint than the simply local statist governments, can handle; freak people out. Weak government leaders, people insecure and nightmare prone, drama Queens, Alcoholics-born again, addicts and Prima Donnas, resource scarcity-fearful jacks, and shrill populaces awaiting the falling sky are the scourge of modern day democracy. In sort all of us.
The fearful ones who want security at the expense of Liberty and Justice. Those unwilling to face the tortuous mirror of beauty. Yes beauty. Democracy is just as much about beauty, environmental and physical societal beauty as it is about ethics and decency. So some people don’t want to rock the boat? Naturally these people deserve no better security nor democracy and certainly no freedom. They live (?) in suburbia or occupy the seat of power, and their leaders are bi-polar swingers. Political expediency pendulum swingers that is; who find no logical fault with the practice of resource war, civilian wipe outs, uncountable human beings and especially children killed, but described as destroyed and collateral damage. These same practitioners of collateral damage, do torture and then sleep safe at night in the knowledge that they shall not be prosecuted by anyone.
Certainly not by the succeeding governments, nor the weak International Court, nor the UN and it’s lopsided logic. ? Why?
And the people are led to extremes of emotions and fearful issues thrown at them like wild animals led to slaughter, much like the gladiatorial spectator sport participants or the early Christians. Death from above comes easy if you control the Drones. Glee for the extra judicial killings is easy too if you want to be an emperor playing Nero in the arena.
Big children, with expensive remote controlled toy explosive airplanes… Jesus Christ defined that some time ago: ”Those who live by the explosive toy airplane, perish by the same”.
Replacing one faith for another we martyr people in country wide Colosseums, today much like early Christians were martyred for the crowds amusements.
The Islamists offered us a decent truce many times and a face saving exit from the murderous adventures. They offered us simple terms and a lasting Peace and honour, by leaving their lands…. Why not take it? Peace now to service and save our Democracies. Save them from the Blackwater mercenary factions roaming the lands. Or is it ”Xe” as they are called now and the Halliburtons of the western Democratic world. Those criminal Houligans acting like gentlemen warriors but being betrayed by their lack of honour and their stunning hate of reason and proclivity to wanton violence and trashing democracy. But why Democracy doesn’t fight back? When the British National Party leader and English representative for the EU said that we should sink boats carrying illegal immigrants from Africa to prevent them entering Europe, no one stirred in the summer of Democracy’s discontent. The British National Party leader Nick Griffin didn’t share these views in a clandestine meeting in deep Derbyshire, but he has spouted these hateful mongerings to the BBC. And nobody thought of prosecuting him for hate mongering. For inciting people to racial hate. For being an enemy of Democracy…. Think of it.
Those are all enemies of Democracy. Enemies of Beauty. Enemies of Justice and enemies of the Environment. In short the complete polar opposites of Democracy.
Let’s take Peace now to fix our leaky boats of Democracy.
What’s so difficult to understand about that? Why people don’t get it? It’s basic Physics.
But for some of us who shun the Colosseum blood sport spectacles, the reality is transparent. We need not climb the Magic Mountain to reach wisdom. We see it in our dashed hopes for justice.
The new Obama administration exhausts it’s mandate vacillating between justice and economic well being. And they end up being governed by fear and governing the fearful.
As if there is a choice. The economy and Justice are inexorably linked in a proper Democracy. But not in the way You imagine. Democracy requires the full admission of Justice and it’s exercise before it’s economic rewards are felt. An Economic renewal is never as strong in a faulty and unjust Democracy as in one that the slate is clean. High Crimes need to long before economic malfeasance should be dealt with. This is the lesson that the ancient Athenians practiced and prospered.
Our model of Democracy is in many ways a poor shadow of the Greek version. The Greeks made everyone equal before the law and enacted a meritocracy.
Equal before the Law. As if that needs to be restated… Blair-Bush crimes ought to be investigated and brought to justice. Locally, in their own home countries, as the greatest benefit will be derived by their own citizens who will enjoy the fruits of their own true Democracy and strong term prosperity. And a healthy community to boot.
I field here the thought:
True Democracy begets strong Economic well being and a secure world view.
Not the other way around…
Let’s not put the buggy before the horse. All the economists and bankers and wealthy shareholders who are being ”saved” by the largest amount of capital and sovereign wealth transfer, the world has ever seen aren’t pillars of Democracy. They aren’t staunch supporters of neither justice nor Democracy and certainly not of their communities. But they are the sole beneficiaries of the eccentric doctrine practiced around the world today ”Save the Rich”. But I tell You, the rich need not saving. They are well off…But even in a Democratic meritocracy, something we haven’t seen since the early days of the American republic in the modern era, not all things are equal. Plato didn’t approve of democracy’s commitment to the transfer of wealth from the rich to the poor. He believed that in the best form of Democratic government, philosophers would rule. But he accepted that Demos would invariably make that decision free of Demagogues. Demos will rule for Justice before wealth supporting Economic injections, and obscene transfers of power to the rich, every time. Because, make no mistake, the transfer of wealth is a transfer of power from the people to the rich. Is this what Plato’s democracy ever visualized?
NO !
Plato, believed that in the best form of Athenian or world Democratic government, a form of ”poor” philosopher ”King”would rule. Someone freed of economic interest and wants; and certainly someone who has risen above the need for such life’s accoutrements. A true servant of the People. Maybe a Monk?
That’s not whom we are saving today in our economic wholesale capital and sovereign wealth rainfall to the super wealthy. Many reasons for this being the wrong policy for economic stimulus. Trickle down economics doesn’t work… anymore than feeding pork to the pigs. Yet this is what we do by any other name. Quantitative Easing… Central Bank asset allocation, Toxic Asset dispersal etc. Let’s face it. We are just serving bacon to the pigs.
Literally. Pigs need no fattening, neither do they need saving – except maybe from the butcher
But western Democracies are the ones really that need saving.
High profile Democracies are suffering their worst these days. They go through the lowest of their cycles teetering on the edge of compelling popular disillusionment, ultra orthodoxies of faiths, conservativism, Talibanization of Christianity and Polity, Environmental degradation and the dread of disease and economic pestilence. Super fertile ground for idiotic extremists and governmental enemies of Liberty working at common purposes and assisting in the fall of Weimar type republics and sickly Democracies. Yes, your Democracy is in grave danger and is not just from the criminals of BNP. It is more devastated from the statist idiots of New Labour in UK and the uncertain wishy-washy Democrats in the US. Not allowing justice reign; is not allowing society’s cleansing actions and the fires of rebirth to unshackle us all. Not allowing us to move past the bondage and hostility of fear. That much we know.
Like a naturally occuring forest fire preserves the forest – so the cleansing flames of pure natural justice preserve Democracy and foster a healthy society.
Our Democracies need saving from ourselves. They need saving and so do the working classes who need some saving, the poor and dispossessed, the war victims and the occupied peoples around the world need saving and the Environmental refugees and highly impacted poor people too. Have you noticed many rich being called Collateral damage?
Not.
It apparently escaped the notice in this hall of smoke and mirrors that Democracy first cares about the ”Demos”. The many who make up the community. In a show of Doublespeak that came to mean the wealthy bankers, the military industrial complexed short termist idiots, pop star politicians and emotionally stunted ideologues. Where is the Demos in this menagerie thinking? Nowhere here.
The Demos is not consulted after it elects a Demagogue…
Could it be that bad?
Even if the elites have been really good at their mass media work they have failed the trust test.
Nature’s trust test, that is.
Unlike human Demos trust, Nature’s trust cannot be faked out. Benign nature will sort out it’s feelings and regulate all actors’ well being. For eternity… or whatever our species Lifetime is. But it is only held in Trust. And in turn it trusts. How far we have fallen.
Justice is a Natural trust issue. Democracy too. Well before we deal with the flailing Economies we should built a strong basis of Natural Trust by practicing Justice for the Environment and in our Microcosm Justice for the people. That is a foundation to built upon.
Pericles, said, democracy is also about taste, responsiveness to beauty, sobriety of judgment and respect for wisdom, discretion and generosity. The Greeks’ code of ethics, Socrates died for, was enforced not by the sense of sin but of shame at not living up to these high values.
