People want peace now. Sisyphus toils – Obama rolls.

 People want peace now.

People all over the world, and especially in the UK, Europe and the US, want what most others have.

Namely peace. The peace that the people of China and the other billion people enjoy and it’s resultant growing prosperity.

A peace that lets us draw a line under the wars and the Bush-Blair evil stupidity and moral hazard legacy.

But people also want justice, for they viscerally understand the ashes of forgetfulness. The people understand that the ability  to name and shame the guilty, is the only way towards progress. South Africa’s truth commission has shown us the method and the way it works.

We want to embark in a new peace era, to arrive at a destination marked “truth and reconciliation”.

In short, to make all that evil, stupid, sad and daft stuff go away once and for all. And be freed to focus on the future without the Sisyphean baggage these evilmen loaded us with. Only then our Democracies will function and our economies will breath again. And if you doubt the relation between the two, just take a long hard look at Africa and it’s raison d’etre.

Or for a better reference say goodbye to an old friend of peace and Democracy. Kim Daejung, the tireless activist for transparency and Democracy. He was the only Democratic president of South Korea who worked to ensure, there would not be another North- South fratricidal war in Korea.  Kim is the one who is owed a debt of honour for he toiled with an all searing faith for Democracy and Peace.

A peace and a transparent democracy that contrasts all too sharply with the aims of the merchants of death, Blair and Bush. For he knew the price of Life and human dignity. He had survived five serious assassination attempts and was delivered on the other side of Life each time further convinced of it’s value. He knew intimately the price of peace and war having lived through Korea’s nasty conflict and he vowed never again. Contrast this to the child actor Blair and the alcoholic drug fiend Texan, both of whom evaded war and public service, but eagerly sent others to die.

Kim Daejung was drafted in the army, he fought, he lived  and tasted the Korean conflict up close and personal. And then he chose. He picked Democracy as the destiny for Asia. Screw culture, for you can’t even have that without Democracy, as Sparta or the old Soviets might want to remind us. His country men today, enjoy living in a vibrant technological leader (culture) and the most prosperous Democracy of Asia.

That is his testament and his legacy.

Somehow, I feel it proves the theory too.

PS:  Not bad for a country boy from the provinces.

Did anyone say Obama?

Parallel lives people live and forget why they are want to change.
