Raj Pachauri: The crucifixion of an honest man by Climate haters

Perfectly timed and starting a few months before and intensifying just before the COP15 meetings for a global climate treaty in Copenhagen, last December, there was a giant disinformation and hateful propaganda campaign. This hateful PR campaign was unleashed by the collected financial forces of Oil such as BP and Koch Petroleum, with Shell and Exxon, coordinating strategy and sharing resources. And they used business method and war footing to mobilize their hate campaign. Their main weapons are capital, untold millions and the Public Relations machines they can command.

And the PR war, was similar in belief and scope to the NAZI Blietzkrieg of lies told often till they become truth. A common propaganda policy pioneered by the sick minds of Herman Goerig and his NAZI cohorts.  The players today were similarly NAZI in belief and posture and they included the financing of the visible war against our Climate, as waged by Exxon-Mobil, Shell, BP and the Koch petroleum industries. Well heeled combatants included the newspapers of the Rupert Murdoch Fox media and the Sky satellite TV and their other Media empires along with Clear Channel and even the Sunday Telegraph which carried a long and prominent propaganda theme against the East Anglia Climatic research centre, against the Environmental Parliament, against Climate Science and against the leaders of all the vocal NGOs and Universities and all Political peers and though leaders, such as yours truly, who were agitating and angling in favour of a comprehensive Climate deal to curb our emissions.

These anti-climate propaganda Nazis would stop at nothing in winning this war and discrediting people was the easiest method to discredit the science. In personal attacks and smearing actions, equivalent of throwing someone to the lions of the Colosseum today they took aim at the heads.

Prime example of the most visible, oil-well financed skirmishes, and the one meriting second place, after the East Anglia email theft [climategate], is the attack against Raj Pachauri of the IPCC.

This attack got started before Copenhagen with the Himalay glacial data well before Copenhagen and continued unabated well after Copenhagen ended in failure, relentlessly targeting the man and wanting to retire him from the public eye. And in a verbatim transliteration as dictated by Koch petroleum industries, this propaganda feature, was published in December by the Sunday Telegraph. And the tag line says that was ”written” by Christopher Booker and Richard North, well known haters and it was titled: ”Questions over business deals of UN climate change guru Dr Rajendra Pachauri.”  With this cut and paste ”chop-job” piece, they did just what they set out to do: Kill Pachauri.

Character assassination is the big game today. The hunt for the white elephant. Or the big game hunt of the white hunter. The Nazi hunters are all out to get You.

A crucifixion sport of the modern age, as practised in front of the public eye. A man hunt  down and kangaroo judged and ”publicly hanged” in short, ”lynched” or ”killed” by the same oil Energy guys who want to overcook your children and You, in this vast NAZI gas chamber. For a gas chamber, our atmosphere, is sure to become if left alone, subject to their oily whims that’ll bring us runaway greenhouse temperatures.

The title of the article and it’s main thrust called Raj Pachauri a dishonest man. The article alleged that Pachauri has been making a fortune from his links with carbon trading companies and that is the sole reason why He cares for a global climate deal and not the scientific threat of runaway climate change. The article maintained that the money made by Pachauri while working for corporations and other Carbon Trading organizations run into the millions of dollars every year.

Sunday Telegraph described Pachauri’s outside interests as highly lucrative commercial jobs that made him a rich man. The article writers and the Sunday Telegraph, stated that these payments caused a “conflict of interest” with his IPCC role and complained that we don’t know “how much we all pay him” as chairman of the IPCC since his science and beliefs are dictated by his moneyed interests.

The story immediately travelled around the world. It was reproduced on hundreds of newspapers and thousands of blogs. The allegations it contained were almost criminal and rather widely aired in the media and generally believed, since they came from a well oiled PR machine that knows how to cloud the People’s judgement.

And they succeeded because, no discussion of climate change or the IPCC appeared complete, without reference to Pachauri’s “dodgy” business dealings and alleged conflicts of interest. The whole 4,000 pages scientific report of IPCC, compiled by 7,500 contributing independent scientists and presented to the governments of the world, came under attack as bogus and manufactured.

There was just one problem: the whole story was manufactured, financed by Climate Change deniers and completely untrue.

It’s not just that Pachauri hadn’t been profiting from the help he has given to the UN, the various NGOs, some charities, businesses and institutions, but also as his accounts show conclusively;  he is scrupulous to the point of self-denial.

After the Sunday Telegraph published its story, the organisation for which Pachauri works – a charity called The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) – asked the auditors KPMG to review his financial relationships and now has published KPMG’s report in the leading media.

Here is a summary of it: KPMG studied all Pachauri’s financial records, accounts and tax returns, as well as TERI’s accounts, for the period 1 April 2008 – 31 December 2009. It found that any money paid as a result of the work that Pachauri had done for other organisations went not to him but to TERI. None of the money was paid back to him by TERI: he received only his annual salary, which is £45,000.

His total additional income over the 20 months reviewed by KPMG amounted to the following:

• A payment of 20,000 rupees (£278) from two national power commissions in India, on which he serves as director;

• 35,880 rupees (£498) for articles he has written and lectures he has given;

• A maximum of 100,000 rupees – or £1,389 – in the form of royalties from his books and awards.

In other words, he made £45,000 as his salary at TERI, and a maximum of £2,174 in outside earnings. So much for Pachauri’s “highly lucrative commercial jobs” amounting to “millions of dollars”.

Amazingly, the accounts also show that Pachauri transferred a lifetime achievement award he was given by the Environment Partnership Summit – 200,000 rupees – to TERI. In other words, he did not even keep money to which he was plainly entitled, let alone any money to which he was not.

As for “how much we all pay him” as chairman of the IPCC, here is the full sum: £0.

It wouldn’t have been difficult for the Sunday Telegraph to have discovered this. It’s well known that the IPCC does not pay its chairmen. His job at TERI is not a “sideline”, as many of his opponents maintain. It is his livelihood.

This is a reflection of the lack of support given by governments to the IPCC. Its opponents like to create the impression that it’s an all-powerful body on the verge of creating a communist/fascist world government. In reality it’s a tiny, underfunded organisation which can’t even pay its own chairman.

Compare Pachauri’s total earnings to the kind of money made by the head of any of the UN agencies, or of the World Bank or the IMF, and you’ll see that he receives one-fifth or one-tenth of the cash raked in by his peers.

If you compare his meagre earnings with those of even a low level executive of the Oil companies attacking the Climate, or with the managers of such NAZIs as the Billionaires controlling the Koch petroleum, the Exxon and Mobil and the BP or the Shell petroleum companies, you’ll surely come to the same conclusions as I have: Follow the stench of oil and you’ll find the bodies buried by these Nazis.

Yours,

Pano

PS:

Just now the Sunday Telegraph retracted this article as erroneous because they were confronted with the KPMG auditor’s reports. But the damage has been done…

Remember to prevent the Climate genocides, we need to gather our wits and hang together in front of the mexican talks to bring about a Climate Deal this year in Mexico.

Brace yourselves for a lot more of these attacks – for they are coming.

Walk the walk and stand together…

Fight alongside us.

What have you got to lose?

The alternatives are dismal…

Think Gas Chambers and the NAZI operators of the runaway PR machine
