Tar Sands, trojan horses, oil pipelines and the polluting of the American mind

Koch petroleum industries, the world’s dirtiest and most vocal activist polluter and the largest private company in America, also happens to be along with the Saudis a big investor in Murdoch’s FOX  networks and the most prolific conservative donor in America. So just follow the money trail to see who shapes the American mind and who guides the US public debate about Tar Sands and causes the American people to believe such misguided aphorism as the damaging tar sand pipeline criss-crossing the US might be good for the future of the economy.

Recently the Koch brothers were recorded praising their oil and Wall Street bankers, friends & investors in their fossil fuel energy concerns, as the people who contributed millions of dollars to his political causes to topple the EPA, to institute the Tea Party and to topple Obama and all great society programs since the time of FDR…

Koch went so far as to refer to President Obama as Saddam Hussein and framed the upcoming election as the “mother of all wars” and this statement made it’s way to the news… But in reality it overshadowed the real news, that is the deviant nature of the Big Oil’s hold of the society and the public debate.

Some of these disclosures from the Koch brothers’ secret strategy sessions record the centre of the controversy as was taken from the most recent Koch seminar in June – and we now know the litany of polluting tycoons and industrialists who are allied with the Kochs in wanting a complete license to continue polluting, to continue treating the atmosphere as an open sewer and pilluting the American people’s mind through their constant propaganda PR and the greenwashing sickening ideology of natural resources exploitation, unfettered corporate greed, doublespeak [pollution is good], and public influence through Demagoguery and Greenwashing PR using the little people for advancing their illicit aims.

And like the Koch brothers, their co-conspirators, their Saudi brethren and their millionaires and billionaires vested in tar sands oil, who all stand to gain from undermining the American Democracy. They are furiously promoting the hazardous Canadian and American Tar Sands Keystone XL oil pipeline, with support from Hillary Clinton’s quasi transparent and certainly Big oil friendly State department, in order to control generations of American governments and dictate the future of the American economy as a fossil fuel carbon addicted nightmare this pipeline s a Trojan Horse par excellence, because it will tie up all of America to a dystopian future.

The dirty polluting multi billion Koch industry is the nexus of many criminal actions that are taking place against those that are working against the Tar Sands pipeline Keystone XL and organizations that work on climate Change research and Policy. All the major environmental organizations that were gearing up with solid science and solid Public Policy initiatives and even President Obama who came to participate in Copenhagen for the much hoped for COP 15 were undermined by Koch.

The Environmental Parliament website and communications IM were hacked but not the secure internal email server as we were always prepared for such attacks. But that was not the case with the East Anglia University and even the Climate Group that were left open like a whore’s legs and all their treasured emails and privileged communications were rubbished causing a furore that literally sunk Copenhagen and the global deal climate hopes. Especially the Climate Research Unit of the East Anglia Uni, was devastated because they were not following any security protocol for their communications — being academic and having no security agency nor information security and communications procedures — and this caused grievous harm to the hope for a Copenhagen deal that even President Obama strove for.

And now the same organizations working on Climate Change policy were hacked again by the Koch industries spooks and their emails and other internal documents were trashed and taken out of context and placed on the web as supposedly criminal wrongdoing by the scientific community.  And by distorting the facts and by using the vast PR machine and the FOX-TV and the Murdoch newspaper empire networks, they created again the ” fictional monster ”  of environmentalists who want to stop economic growth and the so called Climategate to stop the Copenhagen, Cancun, Durban, and the UN climate process and thus kill off any hope for a global climate deal.

Same as it happened this year when the Koch industry’s PR unleashed the new wave of damaging Climategate emails just a week before the COP 17 with the express aim to sink the Durban COP negotiations riding on this manufactured controversy and thus destroy community, national and global efforts working to bring forth critical policies that affect our lives, societies and health.

Of course the reason is dirty oil profit. The Koch brothers would profit from this oil pipeline mightily, at the expense of working families, who live and work along the approximately 2,000 miles of the pipeline’s route. But most importantly this pipeline will tether the US in a perpetual vicious cycle of burning the dirtiest of oil and increasing the CO2 emissions thus rendering the future hopeless.  But as James Hanson the lead scientist of the Goddard centre of NASA on Earth Science says, if we develop fully the tar sands, the resulting emissions might spell lights out for our civilization by pushing the global warming to such unreasonable levels that the warming climate will not be a place fit for humans anymore.

So why these otherwise nice rich folks want to wreak havoc upon this earth and it’s people?

Maybe because they don’t believe in earth science and evolution as many misguided folks seem not to believe. As a matter of fact it is a badge of honour for any Republican candidate to say now that they do not believe in Evolution and that Charles Darwin was a monkey’s ass and some might even believe that the Earth is flat resting on the back of a hundred turtles stack on top of each other…

But the Kosh brothers as it turns out, own almost all of the $100bn Koch Industries, which is “among Canada’s largest crude oil purchasers, shippers and exporters”,  from the Tar Sands projects, and this is according to a Koch Industry’s subsidiary’s website. The Kochs also operate an entire business line called Koch Exploration Canada, LP, which is devoted to exploring and refining one of the most toxic energy sources on Earth. Koch Industries handles 25% of this oil, and the brothers stand to make millions of dollars from the pipeline’s construction, which could generate $15tn for special interests in North America.

We’ve told the state department that we don’t need this pipeline. But the Clintons are well known for their alliances with big oil and the big business and don’t want to alienate the homey bozos of the fossil fuel industry and their Southern bonhomie. A shorter  explanation is that Clinton had approved the predecessor pipeline that has had multiple spills in multiple locations across the US, damaging wildlife havens and American communities, but nobody seems to have noticed because the FOX news doesn’t cover such non issues. There’s even proof that an oil pipeline extension would actually raise the price of oil in the midwest. But who is listening?

And the FOX news is all powerful in the US and abroad and their alliance with dirty fuel oil is unshakable like the twin calamities of global warming and toxic environmental catastrophes due to fossil fuel burning and their Carbon emissions making our earth a veritable gas chamber…

But the dirty oil campaign against the EPA and against all the protections we achieved since the founding of the modern environmental protection movement and because the Nixon administration approved the Clean water, clean Air and clean earth legislation standards in the 1970′s, is strong. And now they want to undermine everything and roll back the clock to the previous Milennia at the times when rivers where aflame in the American Midwest.

And here comes the PR jocks like Russel a stone age dinosaur juice dirty oil pundit, who said this in an “exclusive” story, Fox News executive editor George Russell argues that “sustainable development” is a stalking horse for a United Nations-Environmental Protection Agency plot to give the agency “vastly expanded power to regulate businesses, communities and ecosystems”: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency wants to change how it analyzes problems and makes decisions, in a way that would give it vastly expanded power to regulate businesses, communities and ecosystems in the name of “sustainable development,” the centerpiece of a global United Nations conference slated for Rio de Janeiro next June.

Russell is spinning his conspiracy theory from a National Academies of Science report entitled Sustainability and the U.S. EPA, which is “intended to help the agency better assess the social, environmental, and economic impacts of various options as it makes decisions.”

This exclusively inane rant was promoted by the Drudge Report and echoed among the right-wing conspiracy blogosphere and the FOX news empire. “The idea is to reduce economic activity now so that future generations can also share in the scarcity,” cries the PJ Tattler’s Rick Moran. “They believe that a ‘sustainable’ world population is about 900 million,” says Moran in an even more breathless screed at American Thinker. “Be afraid, be very, very afraid,” says Weasel Zippers, without apparent irony.

So why is the EPA interested in considering the “economic impacts” of its decisions?

Since the founding of the EPA, right-wing polluter-friendly critics have bludgeoned the agency for putting “nature over man” and “environment over economy,” not considering the costs to businesses of protecting environmental and public health. The critics conveniently fail to mention that the EPA is expressly forbidden from conducting cost-benefit analyses of much of its work by law, since lawmakers in the Nixon era believed that the value of human life, clean water, and clean air transcends dollars and cents.

Environmental policy has shifted in the last 40 years to incorporate explicit economic analyses of the costs and benefits of restricting the amount of deadly, toxic, and dangerous pollution that is produced. There is an increasing understanding of how environmental policy can correct market failures, building freer markets by reducing externalities that distort economic incentives. The drive toward sustainable development has been non-partisan and relatively non-ideological in the past. The Bush administration promoted government-business partnerships by which corporations would voluntarily adopt more sustainable business practices instead of setting mandatory regulations. With advances in environmental monitoring, economic science, and globalization, corporations have integrated sustainability into their bottom lines — often realizing short-term, private profit because of the focus on efficiency and long-term viability.

But the reality of “sustainable development” is immaterial to the propagandists of the right, who put partisanship and polluter profits above the American people. So everything the EPA does — even if it helps businesses and people thrive, if it strengthens free markets, health, and liberty — is an internationalist socialist plot.

he Koch brothers’ position on the Keystone XL oil pipeline reflects how precisely their ideology dovetails with their greed. Whether it’s social securityor public education, the Koch brothers use their money to benefit their self-serving ideology and grow their corporate profits.

We’re seeing that again the Koch brothers reap gargantuan profits from Georgia-Pacific, part of their paper and pulp manufacturing business and oil transport via rail. We know many folks who have become ill as a result of the Koch brothers’ pollution, but the world at large fails to acknowledge their criminality and culpability in screwing up our planet.

It’s about destroying your perfectly balanced “Goldilocks” little green planet that allows your children to survive and our civilization to thrive as we are hurling through space in this space ship called earth.

Yours,

Pano

PS:

If President Obama obeys the Koch call and the FOX crew of idiots and greenlights the Keystone XL pipeline, he’ll be directly benefiting the Koch brothers, and their friends, co-conspirators and investors, who are his fiercest adversaries and want his hide.

As former Vice President Al Gore said of the president’s recent decision to relent on applying healthier environmental protections:

“Instead of relying on science, President Obama appears to have bowed to pressure from polluters who did not want to bear the cost of implementing new restrictions on their harmful pollution.”

Let’s hope this was a temporary lapse in judgement and will not be repeated.

Ever…
